I'll be the first to admit that I started my photography business at the wrong time of the year. The weather has been completely unpredictable since I started it. One weekend it's beautiful and in the 50s or 60s, and the next it's pouring down rain, in the 40s, and we're under a winter weather advisory. I've had to push and reschedule several sessions due to the weather, but having wild weather doesn't mean you still can't have some quality pictures taken in the dead of winter. Saturday morning I set up my tripod in my room, cleaned up the boys, and started "snapping" with my self-timer. My wireless shutter release was dead, so every picture you see here involved me running to the camera, pushing the shutter, running back to the bed, and getting the boys settled. I never have pictures of the boys and me, so I was thrilled with how these turned out.
With all of this being said, if you're wanting pictures at this stage of your life, despite the cold and wet weather, it can be done! Photo shoots in your home are one way of having a totally unique and relaxing photography experience! Children tend to behave better in their own home (at least mine do), they can have more breaks/comfort items at hand if there's a melt down, and it's a great way to document the place where you spend most of your time as a family. It also allows you to control the time of day/lighting, so if you need a later shoot, it can be done! Also, your house doesn't have to be spotless for this kind of photo shoot - "lived in" is completely fine! Or, if you're like me, you can shove stuff to one corner and I'll avoid it with my camera!
I'm doing a "nighttime" shoot with my sister's family sometime this week, so I'll have more examples for you to see soon!
Let me know if you're interested - dates and times are a lot more flexible with these sessions since they aren't outdoors and dependent on the weather and sunset!
